The Challenge

One of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies was struggling to communicate effectively with their staff distributed across the world. As they acquired more companies and grew even larger, so did the problem.

A single intelligent intranet to draw together the client’s staff globally, giving them a personalised homepage, and easy news publishing capabilities.

An intranet with a central homepage for all users that was audience-targeted, allowing staff to find information relevant to them and to give them a way to communicate quickly and easily with each other.

The Challenge

A health company with an unhealthy amount of intranets

This global healthcare company is focused on innovation and scientific research with the goal of treating and preventing various health conditions by developing effective medications. The client also has a solid focus on social responsibility and improving access to healthcare.

The client was having difficulty communicating with its staff. Acquiring multiple pharmaceutical companies meant the company was growing larger and becoming even more distributed across the world.

It wasn’t that the client didn’t have an intranet; it’s that they had too many. This was causing problems with discovery, task productivity and collaboration. As a result, the client had been trying to find the right intranet solution for years.

The Solution

A place for staff to connect, no matter where they work

The client, after years of searching for help, clearly wasn’t interested in any band aid solutions. They were very precise about when they wanted their new system in place, and what their requirements were.

It was clear what the client needed: an intelligent intranet to draw together staff across the world, easily and effectively. The client needed a central homepage for all users that was audience-targeted, allowing staff to find information that is relevant to them, wherever they are.

Luckily, there was no need to migrate all the old content from their existing nine intranets, or to build new functionality or custom code. LiveTiles used standard functionality based on SharePoint and the LiveTiles Intranet.

The LiveTiles team implemented a single global intranet for the client’s approximately 150,000 staff members.

The fantastic audience targeting functionality implemented means that employees visiting the homepage see links to the functions specific to their location, division, and function. Using the notice board on the homepage means that all the employees can easily collaborate with each and contribute comments back and forth.

The Power Panel within LiveTiles Intranet is a popular feature and the client is using it to provide links to all the services they have internally, including HR, service tickets, and travel expenses. They’ve all been collected now in one easy-to-find place on the LiveTiles Intranet and Power Panel.

Another major plus for the intranet components is that the notice board training is very straight forward. The client had news publishers all over the world who were trained up very quickly with help from LiveTiles and ready for day one of using the new system.

It was clear what the client needed: an intelligent intranet to draw together staff across the world, easily and effectively.

The Result

Personal connection and agility to assist a prestige client

It can be hard to establish a good relationship with a customer when you’re working in two different locations, so LiveTiles’ staff spent a lot of time connecting directly with this prestige client. This included running workshops, gathering requirements, and listening closely to any concerns and challenges that the client had.

The client’s platform team had some interesting security requirements for the intranet deployment that needed an agile approach. LiveTiles worked closely with the client to meet their requirements and deadline.

The entire project was very successful, and it isn’t over yet, with planning underway for further releases over the next year or so. LiveTiles is also working towards designing a “business card” concept for the client, a handy one pager for all the divisions on functions and locations within the company.
