The Challenge

Galenica had ambitions to give their deskless workers better access to internal communications. However, only a small percentage of the staff has access to a company device and account. There wasn’t any mobile access either. If staff couldn’t access the intranet, they certainly couldn’t engage with it.

The Solution

An intranet based on Microsoft 365 and LiveTiles offers Galenica a suitable solution. The platform is suitable for targeted communication, personalized information, and intuitive use.

The Result

Galenica’s nearly-8,000 employees can easily access their new intranet, “G-Net.” Many non-desk workers access the platform via their smart phones. The introduction of the new intranet has given many employees a digital identity for the first time.

The Challenge

New digital identity for 8,000 employees

The Galenica Group is the leading fully integrated healthcare services company in Switzerland. With over 500 of their own and partner pharmacies, Galenica operates the largest pharmacy network in Switzerland.

Galenica Group’s core business also includes the development and launch of new and innovative brands, products, and services.

As a leading partner, Galenica also supports all participants in the Swiss healthcare market with integrated logistics and IT solutions from a single source.

They needed a solution to help their staff access internal info on the go.

In recent years, the Galenica Group has undergone significant change and growth

This change has resulted in new demands on communication with employees and thus also on the intranet.

The development and introduction of the new digital communication platform pursued the following goals:

  • To provide around 5500 non-desk workers with personal access and therefore better integrate internal communications.
  • Make the intranet accessible to all employees on a mobile basis.
  • Make news and content available in a simple and personalized way, including dialog and interaction options.
  • Strengthen team spirit.

Due to the wide variety of work activities in the Galenica Group, only about 2,500 of the nearly 8,000 employees had a personal technical account and a company device such as a notebook or PC. The other employees could previously only access the intranet via PC terminals using impersonal accounts to obtain information or download documents. Mobile access was not possible at all.

These barriers meant that the intranet was not sufficiently fulfilling its role as a central internal communication channel.

The Solution

A new intranet and new digital identities

An intranet based on Microsoft 365 and LiveTiles offered Galenica a suitable solution. The platform is suitable for targeted communication, personalized information, and intuitive use.

SharePoint online supplemented with functionalities from LiveTiles serves as the basis. This combination achieves the best results for specific challenges such as multilingualism and personalization.

To ensure that the solution works in everyday life and is enjoyable to use, a well-founded analysis was carried out. For example, the different access options were evaluated so that non-desk workers (for example, pharmaceutical assistants or warehouse employees) can access the information they need as smoothly as possible.

Technical issues such as device independence, efficiency in use (login, application issues, assistance, technical glitches, or general hurdles related to use) were also investigated and tested.

Where once there were multiple intranets, employees can now benefit from a cross-group solution. The classic siloed organization has been broken down. Employee-centricity is ensured through a high level of personalization, including individual news feeds.

The intranet heralds a new era in our Group's internal communications. With the new platform, we now have a contemporary intranet and the opportunity to promote exchange with and among employees. Even though there were many challenges in this complex project - together with the Nexplore team we always found a solution.

The Result

The nearly 8,000 employees can now work online with the new intranet solution “G-Net”, based on LiveTiles and SharePoint.

It is worth mentioning that many non-desk workers of franchises including Amavita, Galexis or Coop Vitality primarily access the platform via their smart phones. The introduction of the new intranet has given many employees – from warehouse clerks to pharmacists – a digital identity for the first time.

Using the language stored in the employee master data, the content, some of which is available in three languages, can be displayed in the appropriate language. Users can also be shown other relevant content depending on their location. This also applies to the comprehensive news management, with corporate news and notifications. Alerts and Yammer feeds are also available.
